Fraunhofer FIRST was founded in 1983 as an institute of Germany’s GMD (National Research Centre for Information Technology). In July 2001, the institute became part of Fraunhofer’s ICT group (Information and Communication Technology). The institute primarily focuses on developing information technologies for intelligent data analysis, generating security-related systems and researching innovative man-machine interaction technologies.
